Takanakuy
Paola Chávez Dueñas
Acrylic on canvas
This work is inspired by Takanakuy, a tradition from Chumbivilcas, Cusco, where men and women take part in ritual fights. I was especially struck by seeing women participate in this tradition: dressed in their traditional clothing while also showing strength, courage, and determination. To me, it was a powerful image of femininity within Andean traditions.
