lapis lazuli, glass beads, earth pigment, malachite powder, fiber paste

“Heading Upstream” celebrates the stubborn, determined spirit of an animal that has places to go and isn’t about to let a little thing like a raging river get in the way. Wendy Bellermann creates the earthy palette from hand-ground stones, clays, and minerals, giving this contemporary painting a wonderfully ancient connection to the natural world. With its sense of movement, attitude, and a touch of wildness, this piece brings the feeling of an adventure—and a little bit of animal sass—that would be perfect for an office or living room.

Artist Bio:
Wendy Bellermann, the artist behind BellermannArts, is a Maplewood, NJ painter who finds inspiration in animals, music, nature, and the wonderfully unexpected ways they all collide. Her work ranges from paintings inspired by prehistoric roots, made with stone, clay, sand, and other natural pigments she collects and grinds herself, to colorful watercolor farm animals and energetic portraits of Blues and Jazz musicians. Whether she’s painting with a piece of the earth or a splash of color, Wendy’s work celebrates the character, beauty, humor, and wild spirit of the world around us—find more of her art, originals, prints, and workshops at BellermannArts.com.
