Heading Upstream
Wendy Bellermann
lapis lazuli, glass beads, earth pigment, malachite powder, fiber paste
“Heading Upstream” celebrates the stubborn, determined spirit of an animal that has places to go and isn’t about to let a little thing like a raging river get in the way. Wendy Bellermann creates the earthy palette from hand-ground stones, clays, and minerals, giving this contemporary painting a wonderfully ancient connection to the natural world. With its sense of movement, attitude, and a touch of wildness, this piece brings the feeling of an adventure—and a little bit of animal sass—that would be perfect for an office or living room.
